The Truth About Mars and Venus

It's so obvious. It's all right here - right in front of your eyes - but you don't want to see it.

Now that the Chronicle posts 'blogs' along with the news, we get a wide spectrum of personal opinion in among what is supposed to be objective, dispassionate news.  With me so far?  Good - I don't care about that.  What I do care about is a return to the glaringly obvious topic of communication between the sexes.  I had to say something after reading the blog post about a husband who doesn't complete his home-improvement projects and you can decide who I am in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

Imagine a husband saying something like this in public - would he get away with it?  Informal public studies like this one say, overwhelmingly, "no".  When it comes to communication between the sexes - women get points for being blunt with their men and men, gay or straight, are dead meat if they attempt to do the same.

So let me put my 'Rant' hat on for a moment and say this to the female portion of the readership: Now that everyone is supposed to be on the same playing field, let's keep in mind what that involves.  In other words, either get serious about accepting blunt criticism or get serious about being 'sensitive' and 'considerate' when you have an opinion to share.  I've done my time on the Shame Stool for being abrasive and insensitive and I had to learn how to tailor my words and consider my audience.  Now you go do the same.  No extra credit or time served for 'not realizing it' - I got enough crap in my time to know that 'ignorance is not a defense'.  I had enough heat from self-appointed arbiters in my time - what goes around comes around. Don't be so piggishly insensitive.

Thank you.
